Some Bass Questions: Answer

As for the last week's topic, my friend Gonzalo from Spain gave me usuful informations. Thanks for your cooperation :-)

I don't know exactly the specifications of John's basses, but a standard Fender Precision costs about 800-1000$, but it's likely John has his own preferences, so we should better take our reference in a modified or custom Precision (about 1200-1500$ or more per bass). The Giffin is sure much more expensive, and the StingRays are about 1000$ each (at least in the Spanish market).

About the sound, we must not forget that John is a wizard of electronics, so I think he'd have no problem in changing his sound. The sound of basses depend on their configuration (active, like the StingRays or passive like the Precisions), the strings (halfwound, roundwound or flatwound), on whether they're fretless or not, the amp, the amp calibration nad the effects...even the wood (its thickness, the kind of tree) is important. And then there is the method of playing, using a pick or not, the way the fingers are set... there are a lot of factors that affect the sound, but I think John's sound change is mostly a matter of fashions, studio needs and technological improvements.

Thank you for reading! See you next week!
